Bio-Technology Sector

The biotechnology sector has a large number of young companies struggling to survive and grow.

In order to do so, biotechnology companies in the UK have to compete on both scientific and commercial fronts. There are reported to be 4,200 biotech companies worldwide, of which 670 are public. Together they invest $20,400 million in research and development.

Their total revenue is $63,150 million with a net loss for the sector of $4,400 million. Today the industry is maturing: the biotech sector has become more focused on products, and it has rationalised through a series of mergers and acquisitions.
